What's New at the SAA - September 2005

With so much going on, it's hard to know where to begin!

The AGM this year, apart from the usual business and discussions, was much more fun with a raffle and an astro-quiz which was fought over hotly - but in a friendly way, of course!

So far this year, some of our highlights have been Lars Widding from Norway, who rounded off his weekend with an event in Ray & Lynn's tipi after attending Steve Livingston's Silver Wedding party (poor man!), Deb Houlding from Nottingham, inspiring Mark Cullen and Janice Mott to attend one of her residential horary courses, Jenni Harte from London talking about current affairs and Courtney Roberts from the USA, trying unsuccessfully to dodge all the G8 disturbances.

Cathy Meek ran independently her own successful weekend with Noel Tyl this summer, attracting a truly international audience.

And it's not all one-way. Susan Swan will be speaking on Horary Astrology to our friends at the Suffolk group in November.

I'm particularly pleased to report that Janet Saunders will be running Local Authority classes at Tynecastle High School this Autumn and that Jane Ridder-Patrick continues her School of Scottsih Astrology with workshops in the New Year (2006). Details elsewhere in this website and in these teachers' own websites.

Jane also has a weekly column in "The Sunday Post" and Anna Estaroth is featured in the Saturday edition of "The Scotsman".

Jane also taught at one of this year's summer schools of the Faculty of Astrological Studies and will be lecturing at this year's Astrological Assciation's Conference atYork.

Paul Wright will be following up "The Literary Zodiac" and "Astrology In Action" later this year with a third book, on Mercury and Jupiter, and will be speaking to us in November. We have flyers/ order forms which include a pre-publication discount.

What a lot of local talent we have!

We're experimenting this year with our first Open Day, to attract the general public and to give members the chance to buy second-hand books (and some new ones) and CDs of talks (now recorded digitally), or just chat. Come along - and bring your friends!

Some of you will have seen the new data projector in use - it's so clear that you can read the images from the street!

The Autumn Programme will kick off with another of our local authors, Martin Davis, speaking about "The Lunation Cycle". Hopefully he'll bring a couple of copies of his book on astrolocality with him. We're also very excited that we've managed to book Branka Stamenkovic of Belgrade after her attendance at the AA Conference at York. This will be Branka's first visit to Scotland, so let's make sure she feels welcome.

And we may have some big surprises for you in the Spring...!!

If all of this isn't enough for you, we now have a reciprocal arrangement with Aquarius Rising in Glasgow. On evidence of membership of one group, you'll be treated as a member of the other and gain entry at members' rates - so keep hold of your receipts.Their programme is elsewhere in this website.

If none of all this tempts you, well, there's always the Christmas Party!

With best wishes,
Caroline Gerard, Chair
